A French, Ivory and Chinese Safe Shown by Julie L.
This beautifully enameled art nouveau sterling safe was recently pictured in the October 2001 IMSA newsletter and is presumed to be of French origin. It is marked "900" and depicts two lovers looking into a reflection pond as Cupid stands close by. The lid is spring loaded and looks very much like a mailbox. If you can tell Julie more about this piece please contact her at Matchsafegirl@aol.com
It was personalized with hand engraved initials on the back.
And beautifully hand chased on the sides.
With the striker on the bottom.
Here is a highly polished ivory match safe. It has the usual black cracking/yellowing of genuine ivory.
The lid is hinged like a snuff box and hallmarked on the inside rim.
